As 2018 draws to a close, we would like to congratulate you all for your dedication and hard work which has helped the Group improve its position in its key business sectors.

The Group’s success is a great endorsement of our core values of Excellence, Customers, Integrity, Teamwork, Environment and Safety.

Particularly pleasing has been the significant improvement in our environmental performance and we are also stepping up our onboard training programs and providing more dedicated support from our shore-based teams to help improve our safety performance at sea. I am absolutely confident you all will support this quest towards a zero incident vision.

Work in the maritime industry can be stressful so getting the right ‘work-life’ balance is important and Thome feels that its employees should get the right periods of rest, especially our colleagues at sea who sometimes have to work in very extreme and harsh environments.

Crew welfare is at the top of our agenda which is why we support the Sailors’ Society charity and the amazing work that the chaplains do at ports across the world, helping seafarers with welfare issues and giving them practical advice to help resolve any issues they may have, whether at work or at home.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very happy festive season.  Spending time with loved ones is really important and Christmas is a time for celebrating and sharing with family and friends.

It’s a chance to take stock over what has happened during the year and look forward to the New Year with positivity.

So, we hope you will all have time to have fun and relax.  For those of you who are working over the holiday period, we would like to extend my appreciation for your dedication in ensuring that international trade does not grind to a halt.

Happy Holidays and a prosperous New Year to all!
