Premiered at the 219 Cannes Film Festival, this film is a South Korean black comedy written and directed by Bong Joon-ho who also co-wrote the film’s screenplay. The story is about members of a poor household who try to pose as highly qualified people to get jobs with a much wealthier family. It has received widespread critical acclaim.
- The Irishman
Directed and produced by Martin Scorsese and stars Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino. It follows the story of a truck driver who becomes a hitman for a mafia crime family. The film has a limited cinema release but is also available on Netflix.
- Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood
This latest film from film director Quentin Tarantino takes place over two weekends in February and August of 1969. The film is about a washed up alcoholic Western TV star called Rick Dalton played by Leonardo DiCaprio and his stuntman/gofer, Cliff Booth, played by Brad Pitt. The film contains many references to iconic films and TV programmes of that era.
This film follows the decent of failed stand-up comic Arthur Fleck, played by Joaquin Phoenix, into mental illness eventually leading him to become Batman’s arch nemesis the Joker.
- The Farewell
Exploration of the difficulties experienced between blood and culture from this semi-autobiographical story by writer and director Lulu Wang. The story centres around Chinese American Billi (Awkwafina) who walks a tightrope between being a modern women in the US and the respectful relationship she has with her Chinese grandmother Nai Nai which is brought into sharp focus when she learns that her grandmother has terminal cancer and the dilemma of whether the family should keep this news from her grandmother or not.
- John Wick Chapter 3
This is the story of legendary hitman John Wick who now has a bounty on his head after gunning down a member of a shadowy assassin’s guild, meaning protection from his organization has been removed, leaving him the target of the world’s most ruthless killers. 7.
- Marriage Story
Directed and produced by Noah Baumbach, the story is about the marital problems of a successful theatre director (Charlie Barber) and former teen actress wife (Nicole) starring Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver.
- Toy Story 4
This charts the toys road trip with new owner Bonnie and Woody’s unexpected reunion with Bo Peep. Critics describe it as funny and emotional.
- Ash Is Purest White
In an industrial city in China, a young dancer named Qiao falls in love with a mobster named Bin. When a fight breaks out between rival gangs, Qiao uses a gun to protect Bin and is sent to prison for five years.
- Avengers: Endgame
Another Marvel classic which tells the story of the reunited Avengers who have come together to try to reverse the damage caused by Thanos. A real blockbuster movie.
