A Message from Our Group CEO

By Olav Nortun, Chief Executive Officer, Thome Group

Ceo Bg 300x232Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the last issue of Thome Group News for 2018. As I look back on the year it has been an eventful one.

We’ve celebrated some key milestones in the history of the Thome Group, most notably our 55th year in business. Not only surviving but thriving over the years is testament to the dedication of all your hard work as Thome employees, whether shore based or onboard.

This brings me onto the key theme for this issue of TGN which is dedicated to ‘Crewing’. Having well-trained and motivated seafarers is an essential requirement for Thome and so we are regularly revising and updating our policies, procedures and training programmes to keep pace with the ever-changing maritime industry.

The human element is at the core of our business and looking after our crews is essential to ensure that we deliver an efficient and cost-effective service to our Principals.

TSM Shipping (Phils) Inc. celebrated its 30th year in business this year and does vital work in maintaining a pool of approximately 12,000 officers and crew who are ready, willing and able to work on our growing fleet of managed vessels.

This issue of TGN has some excellent articles focused on our crewing pool, Thome’s cadet training programme and a look at the future of crewing.

We have also been fortunate enough to have been recognised by the industry with a series of well-deserved awards winning the “Innovation in Technology and Systems” award at the MPA Singapore Safety@Sea awards ceremony in June, the “Corporate Social Responsibility” award at the 2018 Seatrade Maritime Asia Awards, and most notably congratulations to our Executive Chairman, Olav Eek Thorstensen, on receiving a ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award at the Tanker Shipping and Trade Conference in November.

Finally, I’d like to thank all those who have contributed articles to this issue, taking time out of their busy schedules, and may I wish you all a happy, restful and peaceful Christmas.
