A Happy New Year to you all!
Welcome to this first edition of TGN news for 2017. I would like to thank all of the authors for taking the time to write about their experiences.
As we all know the market is still very tough so any improvements we can make in our practises and procedures to make us more efficient will help us remain ahead of the competition especially if we can pass on benefits to our principals to ensure we build long term business partnerships.
There has been a tendency to burden the vessels with more and more administrative tasks. We aim at reversing this trend through simplification where digitalization is a key component
Thome has grown rapidly over the years and keeping pace with the ways our business continues to change, due to the prevailing market conditions, is challenging.
Harnessing the benefits from improved computer technology is definitely the way forward and our IT colleagues are working towards on a 3-year IT roadmap with the aim of improving our access to data on board and enhancing our daily operations covering our key functions such as crewing, fleet support, HSSEQ, PMS, and the traditional functions of finance, IT and procurement.
Digitalization will not only make monetary savings but will also save our teams time, our most valuable resource, as well as optimizing systems’ resources which will have a long term impact on productivity and efficiency.
So I encourage and challenge all of you to embrace simplification and our new smarter ways of working and to take on the changes we will have to make. We need to embrace change to be able to take advantage of the benefits that the adoption of digitalization will bring us.
A gentle reminder to all – make sure we put safety and compliance first in our daily work.
Good luck for this new business year and may it be a prosperous one for us all.
