The Thome Group has made a concerted effort this year to enter relevant categories at various global maritime award events.
Our senior managers have also taken time out of their busy schedules to speak at major conferences including the International Shipowning and Shipmanagement Summit (ISSS) and the CMA Shipping Conference and Exhibition.
At ISSS in October, our CEO, Olav Nortun, addressed delegates with a keynote speech on cost control, stressing the need to focus on driving in efficiencies to help to balance costs and increase profits. However, he remarked that costs could only be cut so far without adversely affecting the quality of work and safety of personnel.
Thome has also won some very prestigious awards this year, including the “Innovation in Technology and Systems” award at the MPA Singapore Safety@Sea ceremony in June, and the “Corporate Social Responsibility” award at the 2018 Seatrade Maritime Awards Asia.
Thome came runner up in the Lloyd’s List Asia Pacific “Ship Manager of the Year” award and has been shortlisted in 4 categories of the Safety at Sea awards, namely: “Best Crew Safety Development Programme”, “Best Crew Welfare Programme”, “Crew of the Year”, and “Safety Conscious Employer/Ship Operator of the Year”.
But the highlight of the awards’ season was at the Tanker Shipping and Trade Conference honouring our Executive Chairman, Olav Eek Thorstensen, with a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ presented to him on 20th November
In his acceptance speech he praised the work of Thome’s personnel both ashore and onboard for their contributions to the ongoing success of the Group and shared his experiences in the maritime industry which spans across six decades.
So, it has been a very successful 55th year of existence for Thome and here’s to the next 55 years!
