Thome Wins Ship Manager of the Year Accolade At The Lloyd’s List Asia Awards Dinner in Singapore
(8 Oct 2010, Lloyd's List )

Thome Ship Management was last night named as the Lloyd’s List Asia Ship Management Company of the Year at a glittering ceremony at the Marina Mandarin Hotel, Singapore.

In front of more than 350 guests from across Asia’s shipping and maritime industries, Thome walked away with the award after being named as one of two companies nominated and then shortlisted for the prestigious prize.

The award was announced during the dinner held annually in Asia by Lloyd’s List, the leading daily shipping newspaper in London.

Thome Ship Management Managing Director Capt Bjorn Hojgaard attended the dinner and stepped up to the platform to receive the award. He was cheered on by clients and fellow Thome managers at the event.

The Lloyd’s List Ship Manager of the Year award is given to a third party independent ship manager who has been able to demonstrate a consistent and clear commitment to the highest standards of third party ship management in the course of the last 12 months.

It is awarded by a high level, independent panel of industry experts and commentators who sit together and discuss the merits of the various company submissions. Thome Ship Management came out on top for what the judges called its conspicuously high level of ship management excellence plus its commitment to global standards in ship safety and crew training.

The award comes just one month after Thome Ship Management became the first independent third party ship manager in the world to become fully accredited with the DNV Seaskills Management Competency system.

Capt Bjorn said today: “On behalf of the crew in the Thome pool as well as shore based associates in our various locations around the globe I am truly delighted to win this award again as I believe it reflects the standing which our group has among our peers and customers in the industry.

“At a time when there is more focus than ever before on quality management systems, safety and training , we are pleased to be recognised for our total commitment to these cornerstones of our business and this award will encourage us to even greater heights of ship management excellence and the highest standards of service to our loyal principals.”
