Thome Group

Training PhilosophyWe at Thome Group recognise the importance of providing quality training to our seafarers and the difference it makes towards them and ultimately the performance of the vessels they operate. We believe that training is the key to operating safe and efficient ships on greener seas. The level of training we provide is over and above the standard recommended by STCW. We specialize in tailor-made training for specific systems, whether for Health and Safety or Quality Assurance Systems, Planned Maintenance Systems (such as AMOS, Consultas & TM Master for which we hold accreditations to carry out training on behalf of the provider) and Vetting and Inspection Specific courses such as SIRE, CDI and Right Ship. All this training is conducted on an interactive basis, which we firmly believe is the very best way to learn. It is delivered by an experienced, up-to-date and dedicated training team who provide trainees with an accurate understanding of rank and vessel requirements. In addition to our shore-based training, we at Thome are also very focused on maintaining a superior level of competence and skills through onboard training which we achieve with our Thome Competence Management System (the first and only 3rd party ship management company in the world to be accredited by DNV for meeting their standards for Competence Management Systems). We also carry a wide variety of onboard Computer Base Training (CBT) which we have all of our sea staff follow a matrix of compliance procedures. A major focus for Thome is the Human Element Training, an area which we have been recognised within the industry for our commitment towards constant improvement. We conduct MCRM Training ashore and also hold regular onboard MCRM sessions via the use of an onboard CBT that was designed in-house. This is so as to ensure that it is not just a one-time course but a continuous process on the use of safe and best practices through awareness of human limitations and stimulation of teamwork onboard. All seafarers come to us with a basic level of knowledge but we ensure that the training we provide boost the knowledge and understanding they have so that we are able to provide quality seafarers for quality vessels.
