By Olav Nortun, Chief Executive Officer, Thome Group
In this issue of Thome Group News we have a special focus on the very important area of operation. Our authors review the various sectors of the business including our tanker, gas, bulk, container and offshore operations summarising the challenges and goals faced by each.
These sectors all play a very important part in generating business for the Thome Group as a whole and we are fortunate to employ some very experienced and skilled people in these areas.
Our President and CCO, Claes Eek Thorstensen, has written a very interesting article about the importance of operations highlighting the need for us all to work smarter by improving our systems and procedures. Greater efficiencies bring greater cost savings.
However, this should not mean that we cut corners or compromise on safety. I must stress that it is very important that everyone, without exception, abide by all our procedures that include relevant regulations and legislation covered by SOLAS, STCW and MARPOL plus any country specific laws and rules when performing our duties.
Anyone who has any doubts or concerns about our operations should report this immediately to their immediate superior or through one of our nominated channels. We will investigate any issues in a rigorous and thorough manner without any repercussion for the one raising a concern.
How efficiently we work together as a team and the way in which we communicate and respect each other will have a proportional effect on our operations. The more respect and teamwork, the more efficient our operations will become creating even better working relationships in the fleet.
Anything we can do to improve our operations, however small, will create an all-round better performance. Good performance is a key in our relationship with the principals and will keep them happy, so do not be afraid to suggest appropriate changes to keep the Thome Group ahead of the game!
