By Olav Nortun, Chief Executive Officer, Thome Group
Welcome to the first Thome Group News for 2018.
We start the New Year celebrating Thome Group’s 55 years in business, a huge milestone in the company’s history which mirrors that of Singapore’s own rise to become one of the world’s most important maritime clusters.
This special occasion is highlighted in this edition by in-depth interviews with the Eek Thorstensen family, charting the company’s history from its humble origins to the successful global business it is today.
Each issue of TGN has a theme and this issue focuses on quality management systems.
At the start of 2017, we set ourselves the task of simplifying and restructuring Thome’s existing HSSEQ manuals.
This was a huge undertaking as it involved unifying various management and operational systems plus the incorporation of previously undocumented departmental functions.
I would like to thank the many people across the Group who contributed to this mammoth project, especially to Jamie Morgan Ramsamy and his team for keeping everything on track.
The roll out of the Thome Management System (TMS) began in November 2017, both onshore and at sea, with the transition from the old to the new system expected to take about 5 weeks.
Training sessions for shore based personnel on the new system have been taking place and a circular and training video has been sent to vessels explaining how the new system will work.
I would encourage all staff to learn the new system as soon as possible as it is more straightforward to use and will improve our efficiency with less delays.
Finally, may I wish you all a very prosperous, healthy and happy New Year and let’s work together to bring even greater successes to Thome Group.
